gross reductionism
One of two major versions of reductionism, along with subtle reductionism. Gross reductionism, in effect, reduces all quadrants to the Upper-Right quadrant, or the exterior of an individual organism, and then reduces all higher-order structures of the Upper Right to atomic and subatomic particles. Also known as “atomism.” See subtle reductionism and flatland.
